Why wallpaper is the perfect choice for your home
White walls are simple. But they are also boring. Eventually, the moment comes when you sit in your living room, look at the empty space above the sofa, and think: Something is missing. A picture? Maybe. A gallery? That’s a lot of work. Or simply: wallpaper.
Wallpaper has made quite a comeback in recent years. Not the woodchip wallpaper of your grandparents – but photo murals, textured wallpapers, and self-adhesive options that can completely transform a room without the need for a full renovation.
What wallpaper can do that paint cannot
Paint changes a wall. Wallpaper changes a room. That might sound like a marketing slogan, but it's true. A forest mural behind the bed turns a bedroom into a sanctuary. A concrete-look finish behind a desk gives a home office a loft-like feel. A colorful jungle wall transforms a nursery into a world of adventure.
This works because wallpaper doesn't just add color; it adds depth, texture, and atmosphere. A coat of dark green paint is nice. But a forest in dark green tells a story.
Which type is right for you?
There are significantly more options available today than in the past. Here are the three most important ones:
Non-woven wallpaper is the classic choice for those who prefer tradition. Apply paste to the wall, put the paper up, and you're done. It is robust, durable, and easy to adjust.
Photo murals bring large-scale designs to your wall – landscapes, city skylines, abstract art. Depending on the design, a single wall becomes the focal point of the entire room.
Self-adhesive wallpaper is the most straightforward option. Peel off the backing, press it onto the wall, and smooth it out. No paste, no soaking time, no wallpapering table required. Plus, it can be removed without leaving any residue. That makes it the best option for rental apartments – or for anyone who doesn't want to commit forever.
What about rental apartments?
This is the question we hear most often. The short answer: Yes, wallpaper works in rental apartments, too. Self-adhesive wallpaper can simply be peeled off when you move out, leaving no traces behind. The wall looks exactly as it did before.
A trick that many of our customers use: you can use wallpaper to visually separate different areas. A different wall in the dining area, an accent wall in the reading nook – it structures open floor plans without you having to move any furniture.
How colors and patterns affect the mood
Warm tones with soft designs create coziness. Cool colors and clean lines appear modern and fresh. Light-colored wallpaper makes rooms appear larger, while dark shades create a more intimate atmosphere. This isn't just esoteric theory – it is color psychology that every interior designer will confirm.
For children's rooms, wipeable materials are a sensible choice. In our shop, all wallpapers can be cleaned with a damp cloth – practical when little hands get creative. You can find suitable designs in our children's room collection.
How do I get started?
Three questions will help you decide:
First: An entire wall or just a small section? In most cases, an accent wall is sufficient – it has more impact than four papered walls.
Second: Subtle or bold? Both work, but not at the same time. If your room already has a lot going on, choose a quiet texture. If it's on the minimalist side, let the wallpaper make the statement.
Third: What quality do you need? Wipeable is always a plus. PVC-free is especially important in bedrooms and children's rooms. And "Made in Germany" gives you the assurance that the material will live up to its promises.
